Training while on travel

Writer: Nathan MoodyNathan Moody

For athletes with primary work responsibilities outside the sport of running, training can sometimes collide with work but it can also be synergistic. My recent trip to Hamburg for a scientific conference had both these elements. First of all, my arrival was massively delayed because of a security shutdown in Munich. This put me in so late in Hamburg that, in addition to waiting for luggage, I simply couldn’t get the training in before midnight. The next couple of training days were excellent, though, and running provided me with a chance to tour the city of Hamburg and orient myself geographically. This ended up benefiting the trip because I got to know the downtown area well inc the venues where various functions of the conference were located.
