Nutrition

I track daily nutrition using MyFitnessPal.com. Trail nutrition, during racing and training, consists of a combination of items (to afford me options if I find that any one product is not working or available during a race). The primary nutrition lately is Muir Energy gels, a plant-based fuel source that uses a small number of all-natural ingredients and minimal processing. I also supplement this with rice-balls, cashews, Gu Rocktane gels, and Clif Blocs. My favorite of these and certainly the stand-out product for me in this category is Muir Energy.

Hydration

I used two hydration vests from Salomon.

Filtration

On long unsupported training runs in the mountains, it is not possible to take all the water necessary for proper hydration. In this case, it is best to take a filter and the Sawyer LifeStraw is the lightest I was able to find. It weighs just a few ounces and yet provides rapid filtration for multiple flasks from mountain streams. The water tastes clean and is crystal clear after filtration.
